For our first chat our topic was Acceleration. I will tell it was an awesome night. We had some great discussions from our questions.

Some of the things we talked about last night was that when teachers and parents are going through the process of acceleration it is important to make sure you collect all the data, talk to parents and the student. Make sure the acceleration process is a great fit. Making sure to check in on accelerated students during the transition is important. We felt though our discussions that a transition period of 6-8 weeks is a good gauge to see if the placement was a success.

Acceleration is an important. The placement must be something that will help the student succeed. I believe that Jean said it just right in the tweet above. Keeping our most intelligent students challenged in important. That challenge can come from an acceleration placement in a whole grade, or subject.

Here is some resources that were used during the chat.
