Last night we had #oagctdchat, and our featured guest was Dr. Jim Delisle (@jimdelisle3). We discussed parts of his book Dumbing Down America: The War on Our Nation's Brightest Young Minds (And What We Can Do to Fight Back). There was some great aspects of the chat that were very moving to me personally, so I hope you get the chance to read the transcript. (You can also see the questions here). One of the areas that really moved me was the tweet that said: As we talked being an advocate was one of the streams of conversation that we had. We talked about politicians and educators not seeing how important gifted education really is. We also talk about the how we focus more on curriculum, and not about how gifted children are children with special learning needs. They are not privilaged. We also talked about differentiation and ability groups. One of the aspects of ability grouping that I liked that Dr. Delisle tweeted was: I hope you get the chance to read the whole transcript. Our next #oagctdchat is June 7, 2015: Knowing Your Students: Part 1: Gifted Girls with featured guest Jade Ann Rivera(@jadeannrivera). We will be looking at specific issues, research, and strategies to reach this group of students.
